Now it is not so hard to stay in touch wherever you are in the world. With digital media, we can communicate in real-time via texts, instant messaging, Instagram, and live-feed video. As you head off to World Youth Day (WYD) this summer, consider how easy it is to allow those who are not physically traveling with you to still share in this spiritual journey. Consider, as well, how we can share our own prayers and intercessions with you from this side of the Atlantic by praying for your safety, fun, and growth in faith.
Here are a few suggestions for staying in touch:
Post your videos and pictures on a Facebook page. We want to see them! We’ll paste our own here as well. Send us a real-time Periscope or Meerkat videocast, even if you may be so far back in the crowd the Pope seems to be just a small little blip in the distance. You’re closer to him than we are! Be united with us in prayer: Light a candle in a church. Join in a Rosary procession. Adore the Blessed Sacrament in prayer and song.
Other advice for making the most of your experience: Eat tons of local food, not something you can buy in an American fast-food store or get at home. Talk to young people from as many other countries as you can. Always stay together, put on your sunblock, and stay hydrated. And in all of this, let us know what you are up to, let us see what you are seeing, let us be with you on your pilgrimage.
In other words, “Stay in touch!”
