Living as Missionary Disciples released by USCCB in time for Convocation
WASHINGTON, DC - Earlier this month, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis released a new document entitled Living as Missionary Disciples - A Resource for Evangelization. It was created with the assistance of the Catholic Apostolate Center, which is acknowledged on page v of the booklet. This leadership resource serves as one of the foundational documents for the upcoming Convocation of Catholic Leaders (July 1- July 4), of which the Center is also a key partner. You can purchase the document in print form directly from the USCCB or view it online as an eBook for free.
Living as Missionary Disciples provides dioceses, parishes, and other church ministries with a road map to "new paths for the Church's journey" of evangelization. It is not intended to provide a ready-made program for a parish to follow or a detailed strategic plan to implement. Rather, it offers principles that dioceses and parishes can apply to their efforts in evangelization and missionary discipleship.

The USCCB Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis has also developed worksheets to assist catechetical leaders in sharing the main points of the document. Additionally, the committee has designated this year's Catechetical Sunday theme to revolve around missionary discipleship.
Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C., Director of the Catholic Apostolate Center and a Consultant to the USCCB Committee on Evangelization and Catechesis, noted the significance of the new document, "The four-fold evangelizing method of encounter, accompany, community, and send in Living as Missionary Disciples: A Resource for Evangelization summarizes the way of missionary discipleship of Jesus Christ. It is deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture as well as the reflection, teaching, and action of the Church on mission and evangelization over the centuries, especially during the last 50 years."
The Center has launched its own resource page to provide additional documentation and resources from the Holy See and the USCCB as well as its own to help parishes and organizations implement the principles discussed in the document.

On June 26 at 2pm EDT, the Center will host a Facebook LIVE Event on this new resource. It will be presented by Dr. Peter Murphy, Executive Director of the USCCB's Secretariat of Evangelization and Catechesis, and Center Director, Fr. Frank Donio, S.A.C..
The Catholic Apostolate Center also created an online resource page for the Convocation of Catholic Leaders featuring the official Convocation Guidebook in eBook format, which the Center assisted in developing, discussion resources, catechetical documents, podcast audio, webinars, and videos. Delegations that are planning to attend the Convocation in Orlando, and those who are going to be following along from home, are encouraged to visit the page to begin to discern and plan for this historic gathering and the impact it will have on our local Church communities.

In preparation for the Convocation, the Center collaborated with the USCCB to host two webinars aimed at participants. The two webinars, "Evangelii Gaudium as the Foundation for the Convocation" and "A Participant's Guide to the Convocation", are found on the Center's resource page. Both webinars serve as preparation for the Convocation, both from a theological, and a practical perspective.
